Omaha Public Schools Gateway Elementary
MCL Construction completed the 63rd elementary building for the Omaha Public School District in April 2013. Gateway Elementary is state-of-the-art from design as well as sustainability standpoints. The project is certified USGBC LEED Silver. There will be gardens on site that are irrigated by rain water that drains from the roof of the building in a cistern. Students will learn about conservation as well as sustainability by learning in an outdoor teaching classroom.
MCL Construction completed this project in 20 months' time. The building is 105,000 square feet located on a 35 acre site. Gateway Elementary features 38 classrooms, art and vocal music rooms, an open library with stunning views overlooking the property, and a full gymnasium. Throughout the two-story structure, you will find unique building elements, features, and finishes. The high quality of finish on this project speaks to the high quality education offered at this South Omaha school.
The kitchen facility located at Gateway will be a "central" catering facility that also makes hot meals for nine other schools in the district.
