Director of Construction Training

GENERAL SUMMARY
Full-time position for MCL Construction, a 35+ year construction manager and general contractor working primarily in commercial construction and based in Omaha, NE. MCL has been a trusted partner on thousands of projects of all types and sizes throughout the Midwest. The Construction Technical Trainer will be a key member of the training & development department. Collaborating with the department Director and with departmental managers, the Trainer will help to identify needs, develop content, and deliver training generally around technical elements of construction execution, and construction management. Along with extensive industry experience and expertise, the position will require excellent interpersonal skills and experience developing and delivering training.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • With team, use performance reviews, career path analysis, collaboration with managers, and other methods to identify the training needs of MCL.
  • Develop content and supporting materials, and effectively deliver classroom and hands-on training courses covering technical and advanced construction management topics. Examples may include cost management, change management, job planning and scheduling, budget development, etc.
  • Conduct follow up evaluations to measure effectiveness of training and recommended content/delivery changes and improvements.
  • Track and report data at the individual employee level to include courses and dates completed, certifications, trainings, etc.
  • Update current courses to reflect changes in internal procedures, or in industry best practices.
  • When indicated, advise departmental managers on necessary updates to technical and user manuals to support use of company systems, applications, and procedures.
  • Provide analysis and recommendations for third-party training partners as needed.
  • Continuously enhance technical instructional delivery and presentation skills.
  • Represent and promote MCL culture and opportunities to course participants.
  • With team, develop annual training plan and calendar.
  • Abide by all MCL Safety policies and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Ten or more years of construction experience, including five or more years in project or field  management role preferred. Commercial/vertical construction preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of construction methods, processes, and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop course content and to communicate technical information clearly.
  • Demonstrated passion to share construction knowledge with future construction leaders and continue to grow the industry.
  • A degree is not required for this position, but applicable degrees might be in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Architecture, or an Engineering field.
  • Professional certifications are a plus.
  • Experience teaching adult learners is a plus.
