Director of Human Resources

GENERAL SUMMARY
Leadership position for MCL Construction, a 35-year construction manager and general contractor working primarily in commercial construction and based in Omaha. MCL is a regional leader and has been a trusted partner on thousands of projects of all types and sizes. 

The Director of Human Resources will be an advocate for all MCL employees and candidates for employment; with a mission to Recruit, Develop, and Retain outstanding people. Through direct and indirect management, the Director will be responsible for the Human Resources strategy and operations of MCL including: Talent Acquisition/Recruiting, Training & Development, Benefits Programs, Governmental Compliance, Employee Relations, Employee Engagement, Internship Programs, Health & Wellness, and HR data and records. Along with technical skills and experience, the position requires excellent people skills and continuous collaboration with employees, managers, executives, and third-party service providers.

LEADERSHIP & DUTIES:
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on overall strategic planning for the company, as well as strategies relating specifically to human resources matters and issues.
  • Develop and implement programs, policies, and procedures related to all human resources functions and objectives
  • Provide management and leadership of staff positions including:
    • Talent acquisition/recruiting 
    • HR Generalist and administration 
    • Training & Development and Career-pathing
    • Health & Wellness
  • Personally, or through staff, manage company’s efforts in the areas of: talent acquisition/recruiting, orientation and onboarding, peer guides, training & development, career pathing, internship programs, benefit plans procurement and administration, governmental compliance, employee relations, employee engagement, employee evaluation process, health and wellness, and employee records.
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices, trends, regulatory changes, and employment law
  • Manage departmental budget

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Passionate about people (relationships, hiring, development, growth, balance, satisfaction)
  • Strong, experienced-based understanding of all facets of Human Resources functions and practices
  • Strong leadership skills and work ethic/dedication
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to effectively hire, lead, develop, and mentor talented staff
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate and influence
  • Outstanding interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • The ability to build relationships with peers, employees, candidates, vendors, and MCL’s building partners
  • Thorough in all aspects of the position, and in oversight of duties, projects, and associated staff 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelors’ degree or beyond in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field 
  • Ten or more years progressive experience in Human Resources, with five or more years in management roles
  • Experience in construction/technical/operations-based organizations is a benefit
  • Professional designations are a plus
