MCL Construction transformed the former Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church into the new Nelson Mandela Elementary School serving the North Omaha community. The project consisted of both interior and exterior renovations and additions. The first addition serves as the main entry to the school with a front desk, office space, and a cafeteria area. The second addition enclosed the old main entrance to the church and serves as the school's library and media center. Modern design and colorful touches make the space a fun and inviting place for students to learn. The sanctuary was transformed into a gymnasium and auditorium space. MCL was able to save the original stained glass windows and use them as a design feature. Existing classrooms on campus were renovated to create a more positive learning environment. Also included were upgrades to the entire HVAC and electrical systems.
On the building exterior, MCL completed a restoration of the limestone making the nearly 100-year-old building look new. We also added a colorful field turf area and a spacious modern playground.
