MCL Construction in Omaha, Nebraska, wins the 2018 Association of General Contractors (AGC)-Nebraska Building Chapter's Build Nebraska Award for the best project over $50 million. AGC peers throughout the country selected the Creighton School of Dentistry project as the winner in its category.
"This honor humbles the entire MCL Construction team," said MCL Senior Vice President Tony Fucinaro. "This was a project from start to finish that was committed to delivering excellence for Creighton University. In addition to our team, RDG Planning and Design, Project Advocates, and all our building partners made this a success."
MCL Construction utilized its Augmented Reality (AR) technology to take Creighton University Dental School staff into their clinics, classrooms, and labs for a realistic view even before they were complete. Additionally, AR technology assisted MCL Construction with quality assurance, layout, and safety.
The project includes expanded clinical spaces for adults and children which allows the university to provide over $1.3 million in services to underserved patients. These services include free clinics, preventative care education, and pediatric dental care.
Creighton University estimates the School of Dentistry project will reach an economic impact on the Omaha community of $848 million in 2023 with the new facility and up to 200 new jobs will be created indirectly.

MCL Construction in Omaha, Nebraska is committed to employee engagement and developing leaders for tomorrow's building environment. Project Manager Fernando Gutierrez and Project Engineer Sam Howe recently completed the AGC-Nebraska Building Chapter Leadership Academy, a program designed to foster emerging leaders to achieve extraordinary results.
"The instructors of this course were very passionate about leadership and the importance of strong leaders in business and life. Having instructors like that made the class very enjoyable and a great learning experience. I also liked how engaged the classes were. It was extremely beneficial to hear the other participants experiences and viewpoints on leadership. Throughout this class I was able to get to know myself as a leader, what I need to work on, and the kind of leader I want to be. After completing this class, I feel I have a strong foundation and the tools to grow and be a great leader," said Howe.
Each person participating in the AGC Leadership Academy was tasked with developing a "Model The Way" project. Howe is leading MCL Construction's Habitat for Humanity Builders Blitz efforts. Guiterrez is working on establishing informational sessions for young women at the high school level to engage them in career opportunities in construction. These planned meetings mirror Guiterrez's definition of leadership.
"Leadership to me is having the human connection and emotional intelligence to reach people on a personal level and inform them of the common goal. Being clear and concise enough to let the people around you know not only what the end goal is but why the goal needs to be accomplished and why the efforts of everyone are necessary to get there," said Guiterrez.
MCL Construction is a Construction Manager/General Contractor located in Omaha, Nebraska, and is celebrating its 30th year in business in 2017. It is a Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award winner for innovation.
