Healthcare made more accessible.
Methodist Health System is expanding their reach for patients with the addition of a new, first-of-its-kind centralized urgent care in Aksarben Village. The new clinic is the first stand-alone urgent care for Methodist built with a focus on patients with minor medical needs. Strategically located in Aksarben, Methodist understands that injury or illness is unpredictable and when it hits, patients want to seek close, professional help. “For patients in and around central Omaha, this new urgent care location helps take the guesswork out of where to turn for accessible quality care,” said Michael Ortmeier, Senior Director of Clinic Operations for Methodist Health System. The new clinic is located at 6700 Mercy Road, Suite 109. The 2,300 square foot facility includes six exam rooms, a nurse’s station, clean room, and a large reception area and waiting room. Before this new clinic, each of their urgent care clinics was attached to larger Methodist Medical Centers. The 2,300 square foot facility is open and designed specifically for urgent, minor health needs.

About MCL Construction For many businesses, navigating the entire construction process and knowing who to trust can be overwhelming. At MCL Construction, our people simplify the process by listening, planning, executing, and continuing the relationship to build their vision.
MCL is honored to be part of family milestones at Methodist Health System’s Women’s Hospital.
Methodist Women’s Hospital and Women's Hospital Medical Office Building, located at 190th and Dodge, celebrated ten years of their new facility last Sunday. In those ten years, 46,849 babies were born, lives were saved, and women’s health was prioritized. MCL was selected to build this first-of-its-kind hospital in Nebraska. The 289,000 square foot hospital has 116 beds, private rooms, family space, decentralized patient check-in, decentralized nursing stations, and a 28-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that helps alleviate a shortage of NICU beds in our area. MCL also built the 154,000 square foot medical office building on the Women's Hospital campus. This three-story structure features office suites, clinical rooms, and a healing garden that connects the medical office building with the hospital.
Thanks to an incredible team effort and thorough planning, MCL completed the campus in 26 months and 3.2% under budget.
This campus was an important building block for MCL. In 2010, it was our largest project to date and demonstrated our ability to succeed on large, detailed projects. “It was one of the main foundations of having MCL grow to where we are today. We proved to the construction community and owners that we are capable of something like that,” said Executive Vice President Gary Leapley. This project set the foundation for the following:

Scare Away Cancer, a nonprofit organization run by volunteers from MCL Construction and others in the Omaha, Nebraska, community, donate $15,000 to the Inner Beauty Program at the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center. 100% of the money will be used for charitable care for patients who otherwise could not afford products and services.
"Our relationship with Scare Away Cancer goes back several years," said Lori Fuchs who directs the Inner Beauty program. "Scare Away Cancer raised money to help with the construction of our new space and now the generosity extends directly to those who need it most." A year ago, Scare Away Cancer made a similar donation to Inner Beauty and the impact was tremendous; 86 patients received assistance from the grant. Services provided included skin care, scalp care, wigs, hats/scarves, prosthesis, mastectomy garments and more. Patients do not have to be receiving treatment at Methodist Health System to utilize the Inner Beauty Salon services. "We want to help as many people fighting cancer as we can," said Tony Fucinaro of Scare Away Cancer and Senior Vice President at MCL Construction. "Lori and her team are real caregivers and have a significant impact on so many lives." The Inner Beauty Salon is located inside the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center. It is a warm, intimate, beautifully appointed setting where cancer survivors can experience personalized salon services and image consultations. Scare Away Cancer is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization has raised close to $700,000 in seven years to provide direct financial assistance to patients and families fighting cancer. Scare Away Cancer also supports local health care programs that provide treatment and support to patients. If you know of a patient or a family that is going through a cancer journey and needs assistance, fill out this grant application or send an email to info@scareawaycancer.org. ![]() An idea that started over three years ago is now a reality. The Infusion Therapy Center at the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center is now fully remodeled. MCL Construction completed the work in December and patients have noticed. "We are really excited about the final outcome," said Patty Bauer, Service Executive of Oncology Services at Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center. "We really wanted a place that was warm and inviting for our patients." Gone are the pink walls, the laminate countertop at the nurse's station, and the old carpet. The Infusion Therapy Center is painted with brighter colors, the nurse's station has a solid surface top, and the floor is medical grade vinyl that gives the appearance of a hardwood floor. "When I started, I really didn't know the difference, it's just how it was," said Amy Hartigan, a registered nurse at the Infusion Therapy Center. "The new colors and the remodel brings a whole new attitude to the Infusion Center, to the patients, and the staff."
themed event has raised over $500,000 for cancer patients and programs in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Scare Away Cancer is a 100% volunteer organization by the employees of MCL Construction. The 2017 event will be held at Anthony's Steakhouse on October 28.
![]() The latest technology in treating cancer is now being utilized at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The addition of a state-of-the-art linear accelerator gives cancer patients in southwest Iowa the best in cancer care. "Patients have responded extremely well, they are very positive, and have talked about how calming it is to come into the new room with the new equipment," said Steve Baumert, President and CEO of Methodist Health Jennie Edmundson Hospital. To make room for the new linear accelerator, MCL Construction carefully coordinated with hospital staff to assure there were no disruptions to hospital services during the project. It took ten months to complete a 3,400 square foot addition that was constructed between the existing hospital and the parking garage on campus. The new addition created a vault for the linear accelerator with the walls being up to five feet thick of concrete. A new control room, exam room, and storage room are also part of the project. Director of Cancer Services at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Michelle Kaufman, worked closely with the MCL Construction team throughout the project. "The guys from MCL were an absolute joy to work with; the communication from day one all the way through to the project was excellent. I think patient care was their number one concern," said Kaufman. The Cancer Center at Methodist Health Jennie Edmundson is the ONLY nationally accredited cancer center in southwest Iowa and patients may drive an hour or more each way for treatment. The new linear accelerator will allow the staff at Jennie Edmundson to treat more complex cancers previously referred to other facilities for radiation therapy.
