In 2017, MCL Construction employees volunteered a total of 3,586 hours to local charities, churches, and organizations. These volunteer hours included time with the Girl and Boy Scouts, volunteer fire department, churches, nonprofit board members, youth sports, and more.
"I think it speaks to the character of our employees that they donate so much of their free time," said MCL Construction President Bob Carlisle. "It's also crucial that MCL Construction as a company contribute to important causes in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa."
Scare Away Cancer is a nonprofit organization run by the volunteer employees of MCL Construction. In 2017, Scare Away Cancer raised $185,845 and distributed close to $100,000 to cancer patients, programs, and families in the area. In seven years, Scare Away Cancer has raised close to $700,000 and is now in a position to provide assistance year-round.
"Our volunteer employees are a big part of Scare Away Cancer's success," says MCL Construction Senior Vice President Tony Fucinaro. "But I can't forget our sponsors and everyone who comes to our annual event in October as well as our Boo Brew summer party. Without them Scare Away Cancer would not be able to grow as it has."
Along with Scare Away Cancer, MCL Construction supported several local nonprofit organizations throughout 2017 and will continue the spirit of giving in the new year.
