"This project sets the stage for our long-term growth and flexibility by centralizing complex sterilization and case pick activities into one facility to support our whole system," said Brian Spencer, Manager of Facilities Planning at Nebraska Medicine and UNMC. "In the future, as we grow surgical sites of care, we no longer need to worry about full sterile processing departments."
The 39,500 square foot facility was developed by LendLease, a worldwide leader in healthcare development and investment opportunities.
The centralized Sterile Processing Facility is innovative in concept and keeps Nebraska Medicine and UNMC on the cutting edge of the healthcare industry.
"This facility fundamentally reduces our risk by streamlining and standardizing all sterilization and case pick activities across our system with the primary goals being to reduce errors and increase efficiency," added Spencer. "We are a very early adopter of this style of development and, to the best of our knowledge, are the first in the Midwest and Big 10 schools to bring online an integrated service center."
MCL Construction, the leading healthcare builder in Omaha area, partnered with Nebraska Medicine and LendLease early in the design process providing expert budgetary and value management services. The design and construction of the facility were fast-tracked to meet the mandatory completion date.
"Excellent, above expectations," said Clark Bridgman the General Manager of Design and Construction for LendLease. "On a scale of 1 to 10, it was a 10."
Brian Spencer added to what Bridgman said about working with MCL Construction.
"As always, the MCL team came to the table as our trusted partner and ensured we brought online the right facility at the right cost at the right time."
