Surprises are the last thing you want to encounter on a construction project. The best way you can have a great building experience is to be involved from the very beginning. This way you know you are getting exactly what you want.
For years we have deployed a lot of technology to the field, but it is the technology in our new headquarters that helps you plan from the earliest stages of design through construction on your next project. In a much bigger strategic plan to grow our company and continue to exceed client experience and expectations, MCL took our approach to innovation and technology to a larger level.
Larger in a very literal sense.
The new MCL Headquarters features two spaces designed for group collaboration and bringing fresh ideas into the building. They are not your traditional meeting rooms -- named the MCL Smart Labs, each space features long sectional-style couches that add an element of relaxation and comfort. High-top style desks add additional seating that, again, takes the pressure out of what a formal round table can create. The Smart Lab spaces allow us to listen, plan, and execute your vision.
Each lab is equipped with a video display wall that spans the width of the entire wall, a built-in sound system, and a wide lens camera with remote controls. The interactive screens are designed for creativity and allow for a more collaborative, innovative approach to a project. “We came up with the idea of the smart lab because these two rooms are where you are going to see your project come to life in the very early stages. The video walls push us to think beyond pen and paper drawings and challenge us to be really “smart” in our approach,” said Managing Principal Tony Fucinaro. The idea for this interactive display was part of Tony’s plan far before construction on our new building started. “When we would sit in a meeting, we always wished we could take our ideas and draw them visually to show someone what we were thinking. This new board allows us to do just that and gives us an opportunity to build off each other without tracking it on paper,” said Fucinaro. In just nine months, the Smart Labs have helped our preconstruction team visualize their plans, create the best options for pull planning, jump-start our involvement in a project, and has been used to help our clients and partners visualize their work.
We invite project partners and architects to come to our office and use the technology during the design phases.
Josh Hannum is the Vice President of A-United Automatic Doors & Glass, Inc. and a long-time partner with MCL Construction. He has participated in project collaboration in the smart labs and also uses the technology for his company-specific work. “The smart lab has been impressive to us as a customer. The three presentations that you have done in there have been top-notch. I also like that we can use it outside of a meeting with MCL,” said Hannum. When given the opportunity to build your project, MCL will always look for ways to improve or adjust our delivery method outside the traditional means. This gives our clients something new to look forward to. That difference in approach is how we brainstorm as a team and host meetings using our new Smart Labs. Our mission is to continue to adapt to the newest technology and modify our approach to best serve our clients. This smart lab is the first step in helping MCL visualize the BIG picture as a company.
