We offer programs in construction management, marketing, virtual design, finance, and more. Choosing to spend time with MCL is your chance to live what you are taught in the classroom. We want our students to be on-site, see designs become a physical structure, and feel part of a professional, local team. “It’s incredible, the family atmosphere that I feel when I am at the job, my project team, I would do anything for them, said Project Engineer Intern Mason Haas. It’s been phenomenal and I just have learned a lot and I encourage anyone to come work for MCL.” This summer, we have nine interns all strategically assigned to different job sites or departments that fit their interests. “We want them to be passionate and engaged and wanting to learn,” said Director of Human Resources Mark Berner. “It is more than fulfilling the checklist. It is wanting to learn and ask questions.”
Joining the company this summer are six project engineer interns learning how to support project managers through material management, talking to vendors, and tracking jobs. One field intern is on-site supporting the project superintendent, a VDC intern is exploring MCL’s cutting-edge technology and learning how to be a virtual guide for our clients, and one Accounting intern is learning how to keep the building process going from a financial perspective.
Each intern is required to complete a checklist specific to their roles which keeps them engaged in the building process and holds them accountable for making the most of their experience with us. At the end of their internship, they will give a final overview presentation of their experience. Those checklists are administered by our Human Resources department and supervised by an on-site MCL guide. “Their guide will lead the student through the internship, teach skills and concepts, and answer questions;” said Berner, “be an overall resource about MCL and the specific role.” You get what you put into your experience and, for some, what they get out of it is a job offer. It is our goal to turn exceptional interns into official MCL employees. We would like to see 50% or more of our student interns graduate with an offer to continue their career goals at MCL construction. Most of our internship spots are filled at campus career fairs but it is not the only way to connect with us. If you are interested in an internship with MCL, call 402-339-2221 and ask for Ben VanderWert. We ask that students seeking an internship are actively pursuing a career in construction management.
