The city of Gretna keeps growing. To meet the needs of their developing community, the city and Gretna Public Schools are building another new facility. This one is all about community and guarantees fun for everyone.
They officially broke ground on the new community center and aquatics park located in Gretna Crossing. This is MCL’s second groundbreaking in the city of Gretna in less than a year. We broke ground at the new high school late last year. With each groundbreaking, Gretna and MCL Construction are providing value to the growing community.
“As the town grows out, it is really important to keep community a part of our town,” Gretna Mayor Mike Evans said. “Creating space like this where you can gather and be together and enjoy stuff together. Without it, you really lose that opportunity, and we are fortunate the community decided to build this park.”
MCL Construction, DRL Group, and JEO Consulting Group are the selected building partners on the project.
“Personally, for me, this project has been in the works as a Gretna resident for over a decade,” MCL Executive Vice President Gary Leapley said. “Just in the last couple of years, it has started to come together. To be on the community side and the construction side of the project is really exciting.”
The new community center will be a ground-up, 70,000 square foot space that features a fitness area, gym, recreation rooms, and locker rooms. The space also includes something unique to Gretna Public Schools, a competition pool. It will be their home pool for practice and competitions.
It is what sits right outside the community center that is making waves. A brand new, 100,000 square foot aquatics park will feature multiple water slides, all varying in size, a lazy river, kids' area, concession stands, and more.
The Community Center and Aquatics Park is scheduled to open in 2023.
