Let It Fly Sports Bar and Grill is set to offer an unparalleled fan experience in Omaha's Capitol District. This sports bar boasts a main-level bar, a mezzanine bar, and strategically placed TVs throughout the restaurant to ensure excellent visibility from every angle. Additionally, it features a podcast booth and a fully equipped kitchen.
The project faced a tight schedule with a goal to be open in time for the College World Series. Unfortunately, delays in obtaining the necessary casework jeopardized the project's deadline. The casework supplier could produce the required items, they could not provide the shop drawings to complete the project on time. As a result, the completion of the bar and grill was at risk.
"We faced a potential setback that we were unwilling to accept, "said MCL Superintendent Matt Sovereign. "As your building partner, we will explore every option to maintain your schedule and produce a quality product for our owners."
To overcome this setback and meet the owner's goal of opening the establishment by June 17, MCL's virtual design and construction (VDC) team stepped up with an innovative solution. They utilized Revit, a powerful 3D modeling and documentation software, to create the required shop drawings for the casework supplier. This enabled immediate production and kept the project on schedule. MCL's BIM Coordinator, Eric Lemus, completed these shop drawings.
"Revit is a specialized software that models various components, ranging from simple tables to entire commercial buildings. It requires expertise to manipulate the space while considering the designer's vision and construction limitations." Director of Virtual Design and Construction, Tim Tiensvold, praised Eric's exceptional skills with the software.
Eric and Tim collaborated with the RDG Planning and Design project design team to produce clear drawings with accurate elevations and dimensions for the casework. The design team approved the initial drawings and promptly submitted them to the casework supplier for production.
From utilizing Revit to submitting the drawings, this process only took MCL two weeks to complete. This approach eliminated the potential delay that the project was facing.
MCL's VDC team continues to be an invaluable resource, providing time and cost savings to owners and delivering a comprehensive digital vision for projects from inception to completion. In addition to modeling, the team offers various talents and capabilities, including laser scanning, clash analysis, project visualization and management, and creating construction records.
